So, I decided that I will not [completely] neglect this blog, but it will be placed far, far back on the burner as it is not a priority. Please feel free to sign up with the feed so you can be alerted when I decide to post something new…whenever that will be.

The main thrust of my time…the little that I have outside of work…will be focused on my portfolio which is in dire need of an overhaul.

I was invited to join a compact group of principles at Gearbox (he provided some design work for our curent game in production, Aliens: Colonial Marines) the other night to dine with them and designer Syd Mead, who was passing through Dallas on his way back to Los Angeles. I believe the circle is now complete for me. As a concept designer, the ladder really does not go any higher than Syd. I’ve been enamored with his work since I was a child, so this was really the icing on the cake…the cherry being his reminding me several times to come to LA and visit his studio.

So, for anyone living under a rock for the past 30+ years, here’s a small sampling of Syd’s portfolio.

So, I’ve finally pulled the reigns in on myself and am forcing my creative urges in a more healthy direction. I’m so saturated with the fantastic that it’s time to exercise some other muscles.

One of the comprehensive examples of this “plein air” method (basically quick studies done on a laptop on location) is in a book published by Nick Pugh titled Luminair. Digital impressionism. Great exercise in restraint, and composition.

Okay, never blogged via iPod before…boy is this stupid, but for some reason I can’t stop despite excrutiating cramping in my thumb…ouch! Time to stop.

Well, crap. I had to uninstall the previous version to upgrade the new and improved Wordpress stuff. The result is that I’m starting over from square one…again.

So, to start off…again, here’s the latest work-in-progress of my in-no-way-pretentiously-themed exercise titled “Stream-of-Conscious-Design”, or as I’ve come to calling it, “the digger.”
